What is NACLO?
NACLO is the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad. It is a competition in which high schoolers solve linguistics problems. This is an international competition. NACLO is split into two rounds. The first round is the open round. This is a local competition. You can find a site that is close to where you live so that you can compete. Once the open round is done, the people that advance go to the invitational round. The winners of the invitational round are then invited to compete in the International Linguistics Olympiad (ILO). This is an international competition in which different countries compete. Some of the countries that participate are Australia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada Anglophone, Canada Francophone, China, Colombia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Isle of Man, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Malaysia, Nepal, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Republic of Korea, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, UK, Ukraine, and USA.
My Journey
Since I live in North America, I will compete in NACLO to try to qualify for the International Linguistics Olympiad (ILO). The school I go to does not have a linguistics club or team, so I am trying to create one. I will name the club Logic of Language (LOL) . Creative, right?
