Sour Duck Market is one of those places you hear about from friends (or in my case..Instagram Reels)—the kind they mention with a twinkle in their eye as they say, “You have to try their happy hour.” So, on a recent afternoon, I finally made my way over. Every day from 3 to 6 PM, they serve up one of the most budget-friendly happy hour menus I’ve come across in Austin. For just $9, I snagged their single burger ($6) and a soft serve sundae ($3), and let me tell you—it was more than worth it.
The Burger:

Let’s start with the star of the show—the Single Burger.
From the moment it hit the table, I knew I was in for something special. The smell alone was enough to make my mouth water.
You get this warm, toasty aroma of buttery bread and smoky, seared beef that instantly pulls you in. The bun, soft yet lightly toasted, had soaked up the buttery juices from the smashed patty, giving it a tender yet golden crust. The patty itself was thin and perfectly crispy around the edges—smoky, savory, and seasoned just right.
What took it over the top for me was the cheese sauce. It was creamy and rich, with just a hint of heat from pimento that lingered pleasantly at the back of my throat. The pickles added that sharp, tangy crunch, and their creamy secret sauce tied it all together. Every bite was this perfect balance of flavors and textures: juicy beef, buttery bun, tangy pickles, and a creamy, cheesy richness. It wasn’t fancy, but it didn’t need to be. At just $6, it’s easily one of the best burgers I’ve had in Austin at this price point—and maybe even above it.
The Sundae:

I wasn’t expecting the soft serve to leave such an impression, but oh my goodness, it did.
This isn’t your run-of-the-mill ice cream. Sour Duck Market’s Soft Serve Sundae is like a hug in dessert form.
The vanilla flavor is bold and refined, with little specks of vanilla bean that tell you it’s the real deal. The texture was velvety—soft, silky, and almost cloud-like as it melted on my tongue.
It’s topped with a drizzle of olive oil that I honestly couldn't really taste, so it didn't do too much for me, but the crunchy little biscuit cookies on top added just the right amount of texture. They snap under your teeth, adding contrast with their shortbread, buttery flavor.
At $3, this is one of those desserts you can’t stop thinking about after you’ve had it. It’s indulgent yet simple—proof that good soft serve doesn’t need to be overcomplicated.
The Vibe: Casual Comfort
Sour Duck Market is super casual in the best way. You order through a QR code, so there’s no need to wait around for a check, and the service is fast and efficient. It’s a no-fuss setup that makes it easy to relax and enjoy your food.
There’s both indoor and outdoor seating, but I’d recommend snagging a spot outside if the weather’s nice. The patio feels comfortable and low-key, making it a great spot to catch up with friends or just chill solo.
Why I’ll Be Back
Sour Duck Market’s happy hour left me genuinely impressed. The food isn’t trying to be fancy or over-the-top—it’s just good, honest cooking that hits all the right notes. The burger was everything I wanted it to be, the soft serve was a pleasant surprise, and for under $10(which is hard to come by here in Austin), I walked away full and happy.
I’ll definitely be back, maybe with a group next time, or maybe just for another sundae on a warm day. If you’re in Austin and haven’t tried their happy hour yet, I’d say give it a shot.
