What is the golden ratio?
1 plus the SQUARE ROOT of 5 all divided by 2.
1.6180399
Why is it important?
If you have a rectangle with a width of 1 and length of 1.6180399, then the rectangle is aesthetically the most beautiful rectangle.
Why is it beautiful?
Because if you cut out a square of (Length 1, Width 1) you are left with a rectangle that has the same ratio as the original ratio! And if you cut out another square, whatever is left also has the same ratio! This continues infinitely.
The golden ratio is observed in nature quite often. For example, the cosmos, seashells, the human ear, and others!
